What's 5
de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo celebrates
La batalla de Puebla, a battle that took place on May 5th,
1862 in Mexico. It was on this day that Napoleon's French army
stormed into Mexico. Out-numbered and out-gunned, the mexican army
marched out to meet the french-men head-on. After two hours of
intense battle, the French army ran back to the sea.
When word of this incredible
victory reached the ears of the Mexican people, May 5th became a
symbol of pride and patriotism they had never felt before. It is
the day when Mexico began to come together as a country.
Since then, Cinco de
Mayo has become one of the biggest parties in the world.
People everywhere raise a glass on May 5th to remember the amazing
Victory.
